In the past, many people were stuck using hand saws if they needed to make cross cuts in wood. Unfortunately, though, this technique wasn’t as accurate and efficient as one would hope it would be. Then, miter saws started to pop up and capture a lot of attention due to the fact that they were capable of making the perfect crosscuts. Miter saws are very powerful and aren’t something you should use without having any knowledge of them. Most of the time, in order to comfortably use a miter saw, a stand will be required.
What is a Miter Saw Stand?
Long story short, a miter saw stand miter saw stand is a stand that is designed to hold a miter saw – the stand is raised off of the ground making it so that the user can comfortably do what they need to do with the miter saw. There are temporary miter saws that you can easily make at home, but they’re not exactly comfortable and aren’t always as safe as the ones you would buy in the store.
I had a friend that made his own handmade saw stand and it was just too unstable for my liking. Not only is this unsafe, but it can also lead to a poorly made product. If you’re a permanent woodworker, then you need a strong, hard and steady surface to work on.
If you take a look at the different stands currently on the market, if you’re not familiar with this type of thing, then you might get a tad bit confused because there are just so many to choose from. It is important that you choose the right miter saw for you because choosing a low-grade one can have a bad impact on your work.
Is a Miter Saw Stand Necessary?
Starting out, you may be wondering if you really need a miter saw stand, or if this is something you can skip out on. If your miter saw is an important piece of your woodshop and you use it on a routine basis, and you have been using it without a miter saw, then you’re really missing out.
When it comes to miter saws, it’s all about cutting angles. This is even more true if you’re using a compound miter saw. Having a good miter saw table will make cutting those angles so much easier.
Another reason you would want a miter saw table is due to the fact that it would be able to accommodate long pieces of wood.
I like how the stands don’t take up a whole lot of space, so they’re not going to get in the way.

What’s the Best Miter Saw Stand?

Mind you, miter saw stands aren’t your one-size-fits-all type of thing. What works for me may not work for you, so I can’t exactly tell you what the best one is. However, what I can tell you is that the Ridgid AC9946 miter saw stand has gained a lot of attention, and in my book, it should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a good stand.
When the name “RIDGID” pops up in front of you, you can automatically assume the product is going to be well-built. RIDGID is a popular company that is well known for making power tools – one could say they’re one of the best companies out there.
Product Description
The RIDGID Mobile Miter saw stand has mounting braces, making it a good choice. There’s adjustable support making it so that you can adjust the height according to your own height, so you will be comfortable while you’re using it – this feature is something that is rare in this field, so I was surprised to see that this stand had it. This feature will allow you to lower and lift the height of the entire stand.
Personally, I believe the mounting braces are one of the most important features on this RIDGID stand. The mounting braces make this stand very versatile.
As far as the weight goes, this miter stand weighs in at 67 pounds. Yes, for some of you reading this review, it may be hard to lift, but don’t let this bother you, because large rubber tires have been added to this stand, making it so that the user does not have to lift it if they want to move it from one place to the other (unless they plan on loading it on a truck).
To give you an idea of the size of the wheels, they are 50% larger in size than most wheels – they are 12 inches to be exact. As far as the tires go, they are made out of high-quality rubber, so I can’t see them going bad on you any time soon.
Another benefit of these wheels is the fact that they are so big that you would be able to move them over the stairs if you had to. So, if you need to move them up and downstairs in a building, this isn’t going to be that hard.
Best Features

First things first, there are so many good features about this particular miter saw, but I believe the best features include:
A lifetime warranty – this tells me that the company really believes in this miter saw stand …so much that they’re willing to offer free parts and service with a lifetime warranty. When I’m shopping for new power tools, appliances, and this type of thing, I always check to see if they come with a lifetime warranty. Sure, in the beginning, you may not feel if you need a lifetime warranty, but in the end, if the product starts to fail you, you’ll regret it if there’s no lifetime warranty. So by all means, always pay attention to that warranty, and if something doesn’t come with a lifetime warranty, but offers you the ability to extend a warranty, take that option.
Compatible – Another thing I like about this miter saw stand is the fact that it is compatible with most of the standard miter saws. I’d hate to buy a stand only to find that it isn’t compatible with my own miter saw, so this is definitely an advantage. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I am 100% sure that it’s going to be compatible with your saw, so you need to check to make sure it is before you make the purchase.
Large Wheels – What good is a stand if it doesn’t have wheels on it? Sure, it’s okay if you don’t plan on moving it around anywhere and plan on it just being stationary, but for some people, a stand that can move around is needed. This miter saw stand doesn’t just have wheels, it has large wheels, making it even easier to be able to move around.
Mounting Brackets – This saw stand comprises a universal mounting bracket, which is a benefit that is worth mentioning again.
Easy to Fold – This is a heavy duty miter saw, which is super sturdy. Once you have this thing set up in your shop, you’ll see just how sturdy it really is. I have worked with many different stands before, and hands down, this one right here just so happens to be one of the sturdiest stands I’ve ever had the opportunity to use. In fact, I have looked at many different reviews scattered across the net on this stand, and have witnessed professionals saying this is one of the best miter saw stands out there.

Conclusion
As I said at the beginning of this review when it comes to making those angler cuts if you want it to be as close to perfect as you can get it, then you’re going to want to use a miter saw stand. Yes, you could make one yourself, but personally, I haven’t had a good experience with any home-made miter saw stand – they didn’t provide the stability I needed.
When working with miter saws, stability is key. Without stability, it’s not going to be safe, and of course, you’re not going to get those “close to perfect” angled cuts.
Out of all the miter saw stands out there, I would recommend the RIDGID AC9946 miter saw stand for all of the above reasons. I can’t tell you it’s the best miter saw stand out there for you, but for me, it is certainly amongst the best on the market.
